Greg
Denney grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a child he always had
a fascination with the strength, intelligence, and beauty of horses.
He rode his first horse at age 12 while visiting friends on their
farm outside of Indianapolis.
At 21 years old, Greg moved to northern Texas where he got his start
in breaking colts and riding for other trainers while working on
a ranch where cutting horses were used on a daily basis. In his
free time he would buy horses and finish them in cutting for sale.
The training and care of horses became his passion. During this
time Greg had two horses finish in the top ten in calf roping.
In 1993 at age 30, Greg landed a job on the McCall Ranch in Bastrop,
Texas, where he managed the 1,000 acre cattle/cutting horse ranch
(home of “Handle Bar Jane”) for nine years. Working
for Jo McCall (Goertz), part-owner of the family-owned “Biolage”
empire, he eventually went into business with Ms. Goertz, buying
cutting horses and finishing them for sale. During this time Greg
sold one of his own projects (and pride and joy) to actress Holly
Combs and then began training horses for the public on a small scale.
In 2002 Greg and his wife Andrea moved to Kentucky where they started
Denney Cutting Horses. Greg trains the cutting horses,
gives lessons to horse owners, and prepares cutting horses for show
and sale. Andrea assists Greg in the day to day operation of the
business.
Greg
Denney is an affillated ARHA Judge and has been a member of the
NCHA (Trainer Status) in good standing
since 1988.
