Elizabeth Gaylynn Baker is an award winning writer and filmmaker.
She worked on eleven independent films in Los Angeles before she
wrote and directed her first documentary, “When Buffalo Roam.”
The film won the New York International Independent Film and Video
Festival as Best Social Documentary Short of 1999.
"The Trail of Painted Ponies,” her first feature length
piece, won Best Documentary at the White Sands Film Festival,
while Baker won Best Woman Director, (judged by Sony Classics in
New York,) It was selected by television station WLIW
for a PBS television premier in New York State and included in
a week long exhibition in Albuquerque, NM of New Mexico's
Best Independent Films sponsored by the New Mexico Film Commission.
In 2001 & 2002, Baker worked closely with Governor Gary Johnson,
rallying Shirley MacLaine, Val Kilmer, Marsha Mason, and members
of the New Mexico House and Senate to pass historic film legislation
to spark a film industry in New Mexico.
After September 11, as Press Secretary for Lt. Governor Walter Bradley,
Baker produced “Project Dreamcatcher” responsible for
Bradley, and a delegation of 26 New Mexicans, including five tribal
healers and two television crews, to travel and conduct a healing
ceremony at Ground Zero. The delegation took 10,000 dreamcatchers,
made by citizens of New Mexico, to New York schoolchildren and firemen.
As a writer, Baker created a season of Wild Rescues for Animal Planet,
served for two years as an Associate Editor of BODY MIND SPIRIT,
founded an internet magazine called SPIRIT MATTERS, and writes for
the Santa Fean Magazine. She is working on her first novel, “Vivid
Memories.”
